AM/NS INDIA OPERATION
AM/NS India is an integrated flat carbon steel manufacturer- from iron ore to ready-to-market products- with a current crude steel capacity of 9.0 million tons per annum (MTPA).
Our manufacturing capacity stretches across India and comprises iron making, steel making, rolling and downstream facilities. Technology sits at the heart of our operations and its extensive use extends to level II automation.
Our investments in advanced industrial facilities give us complete control across the steel manufacturing process, thereby ensuring our ability to maintain consistency and quality of our products.
AM/NS India uses a range of specialized technologies for iron making, steel making and rolling, giving us flexibility in how we utilize raw materials and source energy:
- Iron making: Blast furnace, Corex and DRI.
- Steel making: EAF and CONARC
- Steel rolling: HSM and CSP
We also operate significant iron ore pelletization facilities, with current annual capacity of 14 million tonnes. Our pelletizing capacity is located in eastern India, with direct access to the region’s rich iron ore reserves.
Our finished product facilities, including a network of distribution centres, are strategically located in western India, near the major centres of demand for steel: western, northern, southern and central India.
All our major facilities are port-based, giving us easy access to critical raw materials and allowing an efficient dispatch of finished products to both domestic and export markets.
STEELMAKING INDIA
Fastest growing large economy; second-largest steel producer.
India’s per capita consumption of steel is about one-third of the global average.
300m India targeting three-fold increase in crude steel output to 300 million tonnes per annum by 2030.
AM/NS India
Hazira is one of the world’s largest single-location flat steel plants.
Complementary pelletising capability in eastern India with direct access reach iron ore reserves.
Strong domestic distribution network to key industrial cluster across India.

MINING
As a fully integrated steelmaker, AM/NS India is currently in the process of developing two captive iron ore mines in eastern India: Ghoraburhani – Sagasahi and Thakurani mines, both located in the mineral-rich horse shoe synclinorium of Bonai-Joda-West Singhbhum in Odisha. Our license for the Thakurani mine, which was acquired in 2020, has existing approved production capacity of 5.5 MTPA.
The mines have combined resources of 280 million tonnes at General Exploration level (G2), which may increase further with more detailed exploration (G1). Both mines host superior quality ore with rich iron content, averaging 63.5 per cent.
Our mining operations will be fully mechanized, utilizing the latest mining technology and software for ore reserve estimation, mine planning, and scheduling. Core mine operations will be conducted using modern mining equipment for processes such as drilling, excavation and transportation. Operating our own mines gives us the flexibility to use resources efficiently and ability to promptly calibrate in line with the needs of our steel plant.
Finished products from our mines will comprise Iron Ore Fines (IOF), used for pellet making, and Calibrated Lumpy Ore (CLO), to feed our DRI and BF iron making facilities.
AM/NS India recognizes its responsibility to protect and enhance the socio-economic prospects of the communities that live in and around the mines. We are committed to mining in the safest and most sustainable way. As part of this commitment, our iron ore mines will connect directly to the end-use processing plant through a 27.8 Km eco-friendly slurry pipeline. Our sustainable mining principles will also apply to the enrichment of the low-grade iron ore from our mines using environmentally friendly beneficiation processes.
We expect production at our mines to commence/ resume in the fourth quarter of the 2020-21 financial year and anticipate increasing production levels to around 7.16 MTPA by 2025.
