12 Years back, when Amit Jain left the IT Hub, Bengaluru and came back to his hometown Jaipur, leaving behind a well-established career path, he was sure of one thing – becoming an Entrepreneur. Today, Amit is the CEO and Co-founder of CarDekho.com, India’s biggest online auto portal – CarDekho.com with offices in 11 cities and a team strength of 4000 plus professionals.

A graduate from IIT Delhi 1999 batch, Amit worked in the US for 8 years at Trilogy before coming back to India and embarking the journey of becoming an entrepreneur. In 2007, Amit launched Girnarsoft, an IT outsourcing firm with his younger brother, Anurag Jain, IIT Delhi alumni. It was in 2008 when the brothers visited the Indian Auto Expo and CarDekho took shape.

With Amit’s dynamic leadership skills and expertise in product development and Bootstrapping, CarDekho has become integral to the Indian Auto Ecosystem. Till date, CarDekho has raised funding from Marquee investors which include Google Capital, Tybourne Capital, Hillhouse Capital, Sequoia Capital, HDFC Bank, Axis Bank, Ratan Tata and Times Internet. CarDekho was profitable before it raised any funding and once the investors came, the company scaled up to new heights.

But what is success without the failures and most importantly, the learnings that come with it! There were days when the sun didn’t shine and the flowers didn’t bloom. However, learning from the failures & decision making at crucial junctures, is what made the journey worth its while.  Experimenting with a few ideas, scaling the company with limited resources, profitability, starting from a non-metro city, digitizing a business which is otherwise traditional, rightsizing the company were few of the hurdles which he faced. Today, all this is history with the success CarDekho is witnessing.

In 11 years, Amit took CarDekho from a small garage in their home to becoming India’s number one auto portal in terms of traffic. Today about 40 million users come on CarDekho and its group portals every month. CarDekho aids about 1 L car sales annually and it is responsible for about 15-30 % of national car sale figures for its OEM partners. CarDekho has made a significant impact on the Indian Automobile market by digitizing the entire auto ecosystem and enabling lacs of people to decide which car to buy even before they visit a showroom for the first time.

Over the years, Amit not only launched other business portals under Girnarsoft like BikeDekho.com, PriceDekho.com, CollegeDekho.com, he also acquired some significant brands to expand and strengthen his business further. Gaadi.com and ZigWheels.com were two of the biggest acquisitions he executed.  Currently, the company works with more than 5000 4-wheeler and 2-wheeler dealers across the country.

The company went international and expanded to Southeast Asia with the launch of Oto.com in Indonesia. Today, Oto.com is the number one online auto portal of Indonesia with the highest traffic figures.

Amit Jain is being looked upon as an inspiration by many youngsters and his zeal towards fostering entrepreneurship and creating products that give a superior consumer experience has led him to be an angel investor to various internet startups.

Jaipur-based Anurag Jain, co-founded the IT firm Girnar Software Pvt. Ltd. in 2007 along with his brother Amit Jain when they decided to follow their dream of starting a business from their home town Jaipur. Anurag Jain an IIT-Delhi graduate of 2002 batch, together with his brother came up with the idea of CarDekho.com during their visit to the auto expo 2008 in New Delhi. In March 2008, the flagship portal of GirnarSoft – CarDekho.com kicked off.

Anurag had an impressive stint of over 5 years with i2 Technologies and Sabre Holdings earlier. He was responsible for ideation, innovation and development of the core algorithms and analytics platforms that powered the products at these companies. He embarked upon the journey of laying down the foundation stones for GirnarSoft, to fulfill his vision of creating a company, which creates value by doing real businesses and is built to last. The group since then has done several successful ventures (CarDekho, BikeDekho, PriceDekho, Outsourcing et al) under his leadership.

The success ladder that the portfolio of GirnarSoft has been climbing on is backed with agile and innovative strategies of Anurag. His enthusiasm for online automobile sector drove the synergy for CarDekho.com and today the flagship portal is the undisputed #1 online auto portal in the country.

Anurag comes with a strong hold on strategy, analytics and product–tech innovations. His analysis helped the company a great deal in the decision to acquire leading auto portals Gaadi.com and Zigwheels.com which brought the parent company GirnarSoft another step closer to the goal of being a multi-billion dollar company before 2021.

Anurag completed his five year integrated M. Tech in Mathematics and Computing from IIT Delhi in 2002.

His interests are driving, traveling during his leisure time.

Umang is the President and Board Member of Cardekho.com. He co-founded Gaadi.com back in

2008, initially sold it to Naspers in 2011 and then to Cardekho.com in 2014. He is an alumnus of

Indian School of Business and a board member of two bodies – the ISB NGLB (leadership board) and it’s incubator – DLABs. At heart he continues to remain a computer science engineer who spent the first couple of years of his career as a coder.

He has played a pivotal role in shaping the digital automotive ecosystem in India over the last ten years and is currently driving Cardekho’s push into newer transactional business models like finance and insurance.

startups a lot of which have raised institutional capital.
