SCOTT CRUM

Chief Human Resources Officer

Scott Crum, Managing Director and Chief Human Resources Officer, leads MSCI’s global Human Resources team. He reports to Chairman and CEO Henry Fernandez and is a member of the firm’s Executive Committee.

Scott joined MSCI in 2014 after serving as Head of Global Human Resources for three publically traded companies, including ITT Corporation, where he held the top job for eight years. Before that, he was Senior Vice President and Chief People Officer for Motorola Mobility Holdings and Senior Vice President of Administration and Employee Resources for General Instrument Corporation.

With a broad, global background in all functional aspects of Human Resources, Scott has a record of success in executive recruiting, talent and leadership development, cultural change, labor and employee relations, inclusion and diversity, board governance, Lean Six Sigma and strategic planning.

Scott holds a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial relations from Southern Methodist University.


REMY BRIAND

Global Head of Research

Remy Briand, Managing Director and Global Head of Research, is responsible for research across all MSCI products, including indexes, risk models and ESG (environmental, social and governance) ratings. He leads a global team of 150 researchers designing products and services that help institutional investors make more informed investment decisions.

In 2010, Remy led the restructuring of the various ESG businesses acquired through MSCI’s purchase of the RiskMetrics Group. MSCI ESG Research Inc. was created with a mission to help investors integrate ESG factors into their investment processes. As Head of Index Research from 2007 to 2010, Remy initiated an innovation program which led to the creation of the MSCI Frontier Markets Indexes, MSCI Minimum Volatility Indexes and MSCI Factor Indexes.

Prior to joining MSCI in 2001, Remy was an equity portfolio manager and head of research at Credit Lyonnais Asset Management in Paris. He began his career as a private equity analyst at Credit Lyonnais.

Over his 25 year career as an investor, independent thinker and business leader, Remy has gained unique insights on topics such as global investing, emerging markets, sustainable investment and financial innovation. He regularly shares his views at industry conferences and with financial news media.

Remy holds an MSc in Computer Sciences from INSA (Lyon) and an MBA from HEC (Paris).


RICK BOGDAN

General Counsel

Rick Bogdan, Managing Director and General Counsel, leads MSCI’s global Legal and Compliance department. He reports to Chairman and CEO Henry Fernandez and is a member of the firm’s Executive Committee.

Rick worked as an attorney for Morgan Stanley from 1995 to 2000, and then joined MSCI, continuing with the firm after it became an independent company in 2009. Prior to Morgan Stanley, Rick was an attorney with the law firm of Dewey Ballantine LLP.

Rick holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Brown University and a Juris Doctor graduate degree in law from Washington and Lee University.


Henry Fernandez

Chairman and CEO

Henry Fernandez has been MSCI’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer since 1998. He heads up the firm’s Executive Committee and is Chairman of MSCI’s Board of Directors.

Before leading MSCI’s transition to becoming a fully independent, stand-alone public company in 2009, Henry was a Managing Director at Morgan Stanley, where he was responsible for emerging markets product strategy, equity derivative sales and trading, mergers and acquisitions, worldwide corporate finance and mortgage finance for US financial institutions.

Prior to Morgan Stanley, Henry was founder and president of the private equity firm HispaniMedia. He also founded Ferco Partners, a private equity investment firm. From 1976 to 1979, he was a diplomat in the Nicaraguan Embassy in Washington, DC.

Henry serves on the boards of Georgetown University, the Hoover Institution at Stanford University, the Foreign Policy Association, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York and the American Nicaraguan Foundation. He is a member emeritus of the Georgetown University College Board of Advisors; has served on the boards of the Trinity School, the Browning School and the Mexican Derivatives Exchange; and was Chair of the Advisory Council of the Stanford University Graduate School of Business.

Henry has a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Georgetown University. He pursued doctoral studies in economics at Princeton University and received his MBA from Stanford University.
