Dr. K.Veeramani, Chancellor, Periyar Maniammai University

Dr.K. Veeramani born on 2nd December 1933 and brought up at Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu. An inspiring scholar by virtue of his hard work and dedication, an voracious reader, authored more than 75 books and an ardent disciple of Thanthai Periyar, besides all these, a great humanitarian known for his simplicity. Lucid in his expression, practising whatever he advocates. Man of principles and man of mettle known for his mighty words.

Gold Medalist in M.A., meritorious credits in oratorical competitions and recipient of several awards are added glories to his achievements in student life. Attracted by the words and deeds of Thanthai Periyar mainly towards uplifting the society establishing social justice and eradicating illiteracy at the age of nine. Gave up practising law, accepted executive editor position in ‘Viduthalai’-a leading rationalist daily and assisted Thanthai Periyar in editing it and in all his campaigns. Founder of 17 educational and charitable organizations and member of International Humanist and Ethical Union and British Humanist Society, England. Championed the cause of Reservation for Backward class people both in educational and employment opportunities. In short, he is a Living Legend.


Dr. N. Ramachandran, Vice-Chancellor, Periyar Maniammai University

Dr. N. Ramachandran born on 19.06.1960 at Pulavangadu, Thanjavur(Dt),Tamil Nadu, graduated with B.E. Degree (1987) in Civil Engineering and M.E. Degree (1991) in Transportation Engineering and Management from Regional Engineering College Trichirrapalli, Bharathidasan University. He obtained his Ph.D Degree (2002) in Architecture with high commendation from Tamil University, Thanjavur.

Started his career as an instructor in a Polytechnic in 1981and raised to the present position on 23.08.2007 by a dint of industrious behaviour that he has inculcated from his predecessors. An eminent academician, dynamic administrator and an erudite scholar with a combination of rich and varied experience, held many administrative positions such as Head of the Department, Vice-Principal and Principal. Played a key role in promoting Technical Education, Renewable Energy and Environmental Protection. Served as a member and administrator in various professional bodies. Organized several National and International programmes. Served in the Academic Council of Anna University. Nominated as a member of Syndicate of Anna University from 2006 to 2009. He is a Life Member in many professional societies. Credited with many prestigious awards such as WEC-IIEE-IAEWP Environment Award (1997-World Environment Congress, New Delhi), Best Citizen award 2000, Best ISTE National Chapter Chairman Award (Engineering Colleges-Tamil Nadu State Level) 2001, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan National Award for Best Engineering College Principal for the year 2003.


Dr. M.THAVAMANI, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Periyar Maniammai University

Joined the present position in February 2013. Earlier served for 35 years in Ethiraj College for Women, Chennai, College with potential for Excellance in different capacities as Lecturer, Reader, Director – MBA & MCA, Co-cordinator of Self-financing courses, Treasurer of PTA, Secretary of PTA, Principal & Secretary of the College and Trust.

As Co-ordinator of Self – Financing Courses and Principal introduced no.of Graduate, Post Graduate Courses, upgraded many departments to Research Level and Women's Studies Centre funded by University Grants Commission. Has organized, participated and presented papers in many Seminars & Conference at State, National and International Level on Higher Education.
Education:
Doctorate in Women Studies (Women Entrepreneurship) from Alagappa University, Post Graduate in Commerce from University of Madras. Contribution to Higher Education
  • Served as Steering Committee Member on Education and Sports and Working Group on Higher Education for the formulation of XI Five Year Plan (2007-2012) in accordance with the proceedings with Member Secretary Planning Commission, Chennai.
  • Served as Member, Committee on Teaching Learning Process and University Examination System of the Government of Tamil Nadu.
  • Served as Sub-Committee Member of the UGC in fixing Academic Grade Points for Librarians and Physical Directors, December 2009.
  • Member of the NAAC peer team assessed number of Higher Education Institutions all over India.
  • Organised Digital Video Conference on Restructuring Higher Education for Principals and Senior Faculty on Curriculum Development and Teaching Methodology jointly with the US Consulate from 9th to 18th April 2008.
  • Organised Inter National Workshop for Principal and Senior Faculty on Curriculum Development and Teaching Methodology jointly with the US Consulate, January 2009.
